Buck 65
Date: July 13, 2005 From Storm Clouds Due to uncooperative weather at the Bluesfest, I have to write my first non-review, for a missed shot at what would have been my tenth Buck 65 concert. I did arrive at the festival grounds early enough to see Keller Williams deliver his solo set. While his music didn't appeal to me, he gave a respectable concert that seemed to be well appreciated by a rather hippie-centric audience. The most notable stint of his set saw him traverse the stage, looping one instrument after another, building to a full-sounding song. Unfortunately, some very menacing clouds rolled in at the end of his set; and it wasn't long before a wicked thunderstorm sent the majority of the crowd scrambling for cover. A handful of diehards stayed on the lawn, hoping for a break in the weather; but the relentlessly heavy rain and lightning eventually led to the cancellation of Buck's set. The one saving grace was Buck 65 himself, who came out from his trailer to chat at length with those fans who were still waiting. While I surely would rather have heard Buck laying down songs, I have to say that I ended up with one of my favourite pictures ever. Despite the disappointment, I have to praise Buck 65 for doing the best that he could in the circumstances, as well as the Bluesfest organizers, who tried to recover the next day with some rescheduling of other acts. Hopefully, Buck will make it back in the fall, as planned, since I'm still eager to see show number ten. Buck 65 and I during the rain delay:
